Hi, I’m Janneke, the designer & illustrator behind A Slice of Nice.
You’ll find me most days with a cappuccino, working on my laptop from my favorite coffee spots. I love pizza, cuddling the dogs, listening to screamy music & going for a little pastry walk or run with my boyfriend on our search for the best croissants . All the good things in life basically.
My Approach
My non-negotiables
I love working as a brand designer, but over the years I’ve started to dislike a lot of the bullsh'*t around it.
I switched from complicated brand guides to easy brand sheets & personal help with setting up design systems. Switched from working for my clients to working with them. And switched from being a last-minute available design freelancer to working with clients as a long term creative partner.
Less wimp, more whimsy
Call it whimsical, surprising, playful, creative, quirky, a little bit odd, or fantastic, we all mean the same thing.
Every design I make has some part of this. Something that makes it memorable & authentic. Something that puts a smile to your face.
Stay positive
All my work is rooted in positivity & optimism, because I strongly believe that keeps the world rolling.
That means I work only on projects rooted on positivity, that make the world a better place in some way or another.
Be human
In a time where AI plays a huge roll in the industry I do think this is really important to emphasize. I always prefer a coffee or a long walk over a zoom call, and a zoom call over an e-mail. Real contact is the base of any good relationship, and that includes work relationships.
And call me old-fashioned, but I still draw all my illustrations. I still write all my own copy. And I actually love it if you can see this in the end result. Doing this myself keeps my brain happy & healthy in the long term, and keeps your brand human & authentic in an overwhelming ocean of copy & pasting.
